Mp3tag id3v2.4 to id3v2.311/27/2023 There are two unrelated versions of ID3: ID3v1 and ID3v2. It allows information such as the title, artist, album, track number, and other information about the file to be stored in the file itself. ID3 is a metadata container most often used in conjunction with the MP3 audio file format. Implemented as a command line application, this should be able to handle some operations on the MP3 tags as called out below.Ī Brief Introduction to ID3 Standard and Tags This project can be extended to implement a tag editor, wherein users can modify mp3 tag information. The project will be useful to individuals who wish to view and collect MP3 tag data. The software will be desktop based and not web based. Even though they are tagged and in a directory structure that would tell Jellyfin both. The MP3 tag reader is a software which will read and display MP3 (ID3) tag information from MP3 files. Even not reading it, it isn't properly picked up album title and artist all the time as well. Which it could be if it simply read the MusicBrain tags it would know exactly what was there since Jellyfin is using MusicBrainz for the music metadata. I use the recommend file and directory structure as well as completely tag all my music and still it isn't always identified properly. Clearly based on my experience that is not correct. If the docs are correct then really the only thing needed should be tags. So what you are saying is the docs are not correct if it is using both tags and file structure. "You can also separate your music into artist folders or with no folder structure at all." Why then do the music docs say you can have no folder structure? If you rely at all on the folder structure then docs are not correct. You can set Picard to do the Genre on a single tag value which works really well. I would recommend using MusicBrainz's Picard as it does an extremely good job at mass tagging and grabbing new song information on a LOT of songs at once. What I did to fix this was to change the way my genres and artists (if more than one) get saved with whatever program I was using to get music or tag music by either changing it in a setting or forking the program to make it work for me for Jellyfin's ridiculous tag requirements. No tags will work with multiple values, Jellyfin will only take the first one. This is a bug in ffmpeg that has existed for at least 4 years, which Jellyfin unfortunately uses to read tags.įor any Artist tag whether it be Artist, or Artists, or Album Artist the only way to separate them is with a semicolon.įor Genre, you can do semicolon, comma, forward slash, and backslash. I have gone around the world trying to understand Jellyfin's broken tag system as I constantly ran into this issue when initially setting up my music library.Īs you already have found out Jellyfin does not support ID3v2.4 multivalued tags but this isn't inherently Jellyfin's fault. Editing metadata and adding the second genre seems to be working but I rather would like Jellyfin to read that from the tags as well (in case I have to rebuild my server without saving the database, so I can only add the files to a library again) Next I added (or rather edited the files directly on) the files onto my storage and started refreshing metadata, expecting to see both of them when viewing the album, but only Power Metal shows up. MP3Tag uses `\\` as internal separator to detect whether to write multiple fields of that given type so I wrote `Power Metal\\Speed Metal` as tag which then gets converted to this (seen in the extended tags window: According to Wikipedia this album has the genres Power Metal and Speed Metal Let's take the album "The Sacrament of Sin" from Powerwolf as an example which I also chose as test album for my jellyfin instance. However, I now have some files with ID3v2.4 tags but Jellyfin seems only to pick up the first genre so I wonder if Jellyfin already supports multiple of those fields within a file or if I'm out of luck here. Now I learned that ID3v2.4 allows for multiple Artist/Genre fields which MP3Tag supports to write so I thought about using it as some of my albums/bands have multiple genres and it seems kinda weird to only assigne one of them. I am currently working on my music library to edit some tags and add new stuff.
